Vendor Selections for E-Commerce

Let’s face it, software vendors can be annoying as hell. It’s often hard to figure out if they really actually do what you want or if they’re answering your RFP in a weasely way. We have worked for software companies large and small at the highest and lowest levels. We know how they work and how to pin them down. Think of us like a combination of your procurement department and a Forrester Analyst. We will:

  • Meet to understand your technology roadmap and document your needs.

  • Write the “guts” of the RFP for your technology selection.

  • Issue the RFP, answer vendor questions about the RFP, and gather their responses.

  • Scrutinize, and if needed, grill vendors about their answers to ensure accuracy.

  • Write the demo script for the vendors and review it with you to make sure it’s complete.

  • Communicate the demo script to the vendors and answer their questions.

  • Coordinate vendor demos to you and your stakeholders. Note all followups and chase them.

  • If desired, we will summarize what we think are the key decision points and facilitate your decision making process.

  • If desired, we can also coordinate the construction of a POC. What’s more, we can have our tech team scrutinize the vendor’s setup and code to look for any hardwired tricks.

These engagements usually run about 16 weeks and tend to be about half time on our side (while vendors are responding to RFP, prepping their demos, etc.).

Why Practical?

Pick the product in the upper right-most part of the magic quadrant or wave, right? Simple as that? Not necessarily! The product that excels the most in the way that matters most to you could be in the opposite quadrant. Extracting the most important and relevant nuances from a vendor’s offering requires asking incisive questions and taking a hard line with vendors. We’ve been on their side of the table and know how to get the most from them.
